Begum Kareena is immune to success and failure

Labels: Comedy , Movies , Music
Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, whose last film 'Gori Tere Pyaar Mein' did not do well at the box office, says she isn't dejected by the failure of the movie.

Imran Khan and Kareena made the audience fall in love with them with their first outing 'Ek Main Aur Ek Tu'. The two teamed up again for Karan Johar's home production but the romantic comedy which released last month failed ton create magic at the box office.

"I think because 'Ek Main Aur Ek Tu' was a lovely film so there were expectations from this film 'Gori Tere Pyaar Mein'. I think the script let us down in a very bad way. That (script) is the most important factor of a film.

In 'Ek Main Aur Ek Tu' it was lovely script, fantastic story. It was new... you have never seen an actress saying she doesn't want to live with the guy," Kareena told PTI in an interview.

After achieving so much success in Bollywood the failure of a film at this point of her career doesn't bother Kareena. "The failure of a film doesn't bother me much today. It is like you become immune to success and failure. It is like a balance.

I have seen too much of that in the industry. But that is how it works, it happens with everyone. You get success, failure equally in same line... so it's okay," the 33-year-old star said. Meanwhile, Kareena is happy to associate with an initiative by Star network to highlight the issue of women safety. She will champion the use of Channel V's 'VithU' app for this.

"When my PR team was talking to me about this app that time Star network was thinking about it... I felt this is the app I want to support. It has to come from within... it is something you should feel. Actors have a voice that does reach a lot of people and if we can use it for a cause it is great. I think women safety in India is important today... I have a young niece at home, have a sister," Kareena said.

Soha Ali Khan: Saif is a genuine nawab

Labels: Comedy , Music

By:Rafeeq Mulla.Bollywood Action.News..

Soha Ali Khan, currently busy promoting her forthcoming film Mr Joe B Carvalho, describes her brother and actor Saif as a genuine nawab.

Saif was anointed the 10th Nawab of Pataudi after the death of his father and former India cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan in 2011.

When asked about the personality traits of her brother in real life, Soha said: "He is very special, and Saif was born a prince."

"He was born in 1970 and in 1971 (under the 26th Amendment to the Constitution) all the princely titles were abolished. So, he was actually a prince for a year," she said.

"Maybe because of that, his style and his taste is so different. Even when he has lunch during shoots, he has a table, table-cloth - he is a genuine nawab," she added.

Soha, who is active in films for about a decade and did films like Rang De Basanti and Mumbai Meri Jaan, says she has shed the girl-next-door image in the comedy, Mr Joe B Carvalho, directed by Samir Tewari.

"It's a comedy film and I got an opportunity to do action and cabaret - so it was fun for me. All this while I have done more of the girl-next-door kind of a role, but in this film I have come out of that image," said the 35-year-old.

In the film, which is coming out on January 3, Soha has teamed up with Arshad Warsi.

Small budget films triumph as 100 club finds new members

Labels: Comedy
By:Rafeeq Mulla.Bollywood Action.News

With Indian cinema celebrating its 100 years in 2013, Bollywood found newcomers challenging the reign of superstars in the 100 crore club even as small-budget but content driven films found acceptance at the box office.

Shah Rukh Khan and his star power led the march to the 100 crore club with his 'Chennai Express' which became the first film of the year to surpass the old standard by earning more than 200 crores at the box office.

The 100 crore club found new members in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Farhan Akhtar-starrer biopic ' Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', Hrithik Roshan's 'Krrish 3', Ranbir Kapoor's 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani', Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone starrer Sanjay Leela Bhansali film 'Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela' and the over-performing adult comedy 'Grand Masti', whose success surprised even its makers.

The year's much awaited release is yet to come as Aamir Khan starrer 'Dhoom 3' hits the screens on December 20. Aamir is expected to take 'Dhoom' series, already a hit franchise, to new heights.

Gone are the days when films ran for several weeks and terms like golden jubilee and silver jubilee measured the success. The yardstick of a blockbuster this year was not longevity in the cinema halls, but the box office collection especially during the weekend.

"It was a good year for the industry. This year films were breaking record after record, like 'Chennai Express' was the huge hit of the year. And now Aamir Khan's 'Dhoom 3' is coming which surely will turn out to be the highest grosser of this year. Also, small films managed to recover money and did well," trade analyst Vikas Mohan said.

"This year both big as well as small films did well. This shows the audience is ready for good cinema," said Vinod Mirani, another trade analyst.

Abbas Mastan directed multi-starrer 'Race 2' became the first film of the year to enter the 100 crore club. Then came Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika starrer 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani'. A romance with some coming-of-age elements thrown in, the film was not as promising as Ayan Mukherji's debut 'Wake Up Sid' but the chemistry between its lead pair managed to find love from the young crowd.

'Ishqiya' was intense, 'Dedh Ishqiya' is fun: Huma

Labels: Comedy
Actress Huma Qureshi says "Dedh Ishqiya" is different from the original "Ishqiya" and is confident that the viewers will enjoy the comedy-thriller.

Abhishek Chaubey directed film stars Madhuri Dixit, Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi in the lead roles.

"This film has nothing to do with 'Ishqiya', it's altogether a different story. My character is very interesting. 'Ishqiya' was intense, 'Dedh Ishqiya' is fun and I am sure everyone will enjoy it," said Huma.

The actress, who is sharing screen space with renowned actors like Naseer and Madhuri so early in her career, considers herself lucky.

"I am very fortunate to work with such good actors. I think I have worked with some of the best actors of our time," said the actress who teamed up with Manoj Bajpayee in "Gangs of Wasseypur".
Chaubey had presented Vidya Balan in a very bold avatar in "Ishqiya". In the black comedy, Vidya played clever and sensuous Krishna, who uses two petty criminals Iftikhar (Naseer) and Babban (Arshad) to take revenge on her husband.

When asked why he didn't cast her in the sequel, the director said: "We couldn't take her character ahead as we had nothing to offer. So, we thought we could take ahead the story of two men and how they fall in love with someone else."

‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’: Raju Srivastava prefers ‘Gutthi’ over Kapil Sharma

Labels: Comedy
New Delhi: While the producers of ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ are claiming to have the copyright of the character ‘Gutthi’ played by Sunil Grover, ace comedian Raju Srivastava feels otherwise, if the latest buzz is anything to go by.
An entertainment website reports that Raju is not in favour of Sunil Grover getting denied the rights to ‘Gutthi’s character.

Here’s what Raju said: “I feel whether it is a stand-up comedy act or any character of film or serial, every artistic work is an intellectual property of an artist and the creator should have all rights to have copyright over it. As far as Gutthi’s character is concerned, Sunil Grover has performed the same character on other shows before ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ went on air. He has recited the character many times to me before the show came in existence. So I don’t understand how any channel cam claim to have copyright on the character Gutthi. I think Gutthi belongs to Sunil Grover.”

Going by what Raju said, we find his reasons quite logical. What about you?

Our chemistry natural: Bruna Abdullah on Omar Farooque

Labels: Comedy
Model-actress Bruna Abdullah, known for her steamy scenes in adult comedy "Grand Masti", is winning appreciation for her chemistry with boyfriend Omar Farooque in the celebrity couple dance reality show "Nach Baliye 6". She says it's not fabricated.

"For us, it (chemistry) is very natural. We don't have to act because we have been together, so it is not really difficult to portray that (sensuous) chemistry," Bruna told reporters on the set of the show.

"But Omar is very shy, so we are working on it," she added.

"Nach Baliye 6", which went on air Nov 9 on Star Plus with a tagline 'Hadd Se Badhega Romance", is being judged by actress Shilpa Shetty, director Sajid Khan and choreographer Terence Lewis.

When asked, is it okay to do such bold acts on TV, she said: "After 'Grand Masti', nothing is bold."

Rupa Manjari to play labourer in Tamil movie

Labels: Comedy , Movies
With successive back to back hits in Malayalam and Tamil, actress Rupa Manjari is keeping her fingers crossed on her upcoming two films one of which features her as a construction worker.
Bangalore-based Rupa, who shot into the limelight with the critically acclaimed 'Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru', a romantic comedy, in 2009, directed by woman-director Nandhini, will be seen playing a labourer in the Tamil film 'Sivappu'.
The movie is directed by Sathyasiva and she plays the female lead, opposite actor Naveen Chandra from the Telugu film industry. Work on the movie is over and it is expected to be released soon, Rupa told PTI.
The story is about the life of construction workers in southern Tamil Nadu. Cinematography is by national award winning cinematographer, veteran Madhu Ambat.
The other upcoming Tamil movie is 'Illa Aanalum Irukku' directed by Deekay in which she stars opposite Kreshna and is shooting in Nainital.
"It is a comedy thriller. I play an urban girl. Oviya and Karuna are the other main characters. Each one is in their own way eccentric and my role is quite different from the others I have played so far."
"I can't disclose much on the movie," she said.
The crew is likely to be in Nainital till this month end and will wrap up the film in December. "It is absolutely freezing in Nainital. There are shoots in the morning as well as in the night. The weather is bad but the crew is just fantastic, focused on the job." she said.
This will be her fourth Tamil movie. Rupa's back to back hits were the Malayalam movie 'Mallu Singh' and 'Naan' in Tamil last year.
In 'Mallu Singh', directed by Vyshakh, she starred opposite Kunchacko Boban.
Rupa earlier did 'Tournament' directed by actor-director Lal in which she played a wildlife photographer and had popular Malayalam actor Fahad Fazil as one of the main characters.

Who is your favourite- Sunil Grover or Kapil Sharma?

Labels: Comedy
Mumbai: Helping someone in turning his agony into ecstasy isn’t an easy task. Making someone smile is an art. Comedians who excel in churning laugh riots are blessed with an uncanny ability to boost people’s morals with their hilarious performances.
The legendary Mehmood, Johny Walker were bestowed with such rare talent. You could do little but contract their contagious smiles. But such personalities are often lost in oblivion.

In the recent times, Kapil Sharma has emerged as a crusader against depression, for every word he utters succeeds in tickling your funny bone. His gags are funny and his performances thoroughly entertaining. His debut TV programme as a producer- ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’- has all the ingredients of a super-hit show.

Among the various characters in the show, ‘Guthi’ essayed by Sunil Grover surfaced as a rare character with loveable peculiarity and coyness. In a short span of time, Grover has been able to connect with the audiences.

But his sudden exit from the show has led to massive speculations. The channel airing the show has even issued a public notice cautioning anyone and everyone to not copy the character of ‘Guthi’ as the intellectual property solely belongs to the producers of the show.

The big question is, will Grover be able to impress the audiences sans his ‘Guthi’i image?

I lap up things that help me get better: Mahie Gill

Labels: Comedy , Movies
New benchmarks are set and a few stereotypes are broken with each character that Mahie Gill plays in a movie. The actor, who rose to fame with her performance as 'Paro' in 'Dev D' is ready to experiment more and grab any opportunity that allows her to try something new.
The Chandigarh-girl, who has made a place for herself in Bollywood with her unconventional roles, bold avatar and more, is now grooving to the tunes of item numbers.
`I lap up whatever would help me get better in Bollywood," said the actress during her visit to her hometown.
"After I did a dance number in my Punjabi film 'Carry on Jatta', that is when directors felt I can actually dance. Since then, I have got a lot of offers for item songs. I am happy with my dance number in 'Zanjeer' and I am looking forward for my next in Saif Ali Khan's 'Bullet Raja'," she added.

Known for her intense roles in "Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster" series, she feels that the cliche roles don't interest her much.
`I am very choosy about my scripts. After doing bold roles, I can't settle for anything less," she said adding that her decision is guided by scripts.

"I don't make a conscious choice to choose unconventional roles. If I like the script, I go for it. For me, the script has to be interesting. Even if I have two to three scenes in a film, I don't mind doing it if they are worth it,` the 37-year-old told.
Even after establishing herself in Bollywood, Mahie does not shy away from doing Punjabi films.

Asked about her love for Punjabi cinema, she said: `I owe a lot to the Punjabi film industry and my last Punjabi film 'Carry on Jatta' was a blockbuster. I don't think a comedy film like this has ever been made in Bollywood. Punjabi cinema is doing great. Such films are the reason for me to continue with the regional cinema. I feel this is where I belong.`

Post "Carry on Jatta" success, Mahie claims she got offers from NRIs to make a similar film at a budget of Rs.20 crore, but Mahie feels this is sheer waste of money.

`The regional cinema does not work on such huge budgets. People who are abroadhave lack of knowledge and they are just ready to invest without thinking. Such a huge budget is unnecessary and will not give adequate returns in the Punjabi industry. So I rejected those offers,` she said.

Which is your favourite role so far?

`Paro in 'Dev D' will always be close to my heart. Though all characters that I have played are special to me, but 'Dev D' will always be my favourite,` she said with a smile on her face.

On her wish-list are more comedies and actioners. "Also a film based on sports. After 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', I would love to do a biopic on some sportsperson or a double role is what I would like to do,` added the actress, who featured in "Paan Singh Tomar".
Mahie's personal life had some rough patches in the past, but now she admits being happy in a relationship with a guy from Jammu, who does not belong to the film industry.

Talking about her upcoming films, Mahie said she is all set for "Gangs of Ghost", which is a 1950s horror comedy inspired by legendary actress Meena Kumari.

I am very excited about the film. I am also doing a dance number in it. The genre is very different from what I have done so far and since it is inspired from the legendary Meena Kumari, it makes it more interesting,` said the actor looking stunning in her gown.

Will 'Rajjo' be a game changer for Kangana?

Labels: Comedy
Having proved her mettle in a comic role in the 2011 romantic-comedy "Tanu Weds Manu", actress Kangana Ranaut Monday said that she hopes her forthcoming film "Rajjo", in which she plays a nautch (dance) girl, turns out to be a game changer

The actress broke free of her troubled girl image that she had in films like "Gangster", "Woh Lamhe" and "Fashion", through her impressive comic timing in director Anand L. Rai's "Tanu Weds Manu", which also gave her a chance to dance.

She fervently wishes "Rajjo" to be another turning point in her career.

"I always wanted to dance. After 'Fashion', people did not give me comedy roles and 'Tanu Weds Manu' was a game changer for me...and now 'Rajjo' has given me another chance to dance and I hope it too becomes a game changer," she said during the opening of Adrija Jewellery showroom here.
Busy promoting her next release, "Krrish 3", the actress said researching for her role as a nautch girl was a revelation. She was shocked to find that most of the women in the flesh business "really love doing what they do".
"Most don't even mind being in flesh business. They really love doing what they do....it's not that they want to escape or have a different life.. it was a shocking thing for me.

"The ones who are really popular mujra girls ..it's unlike how they are portrayed in Hindi films...they are trained and they are groomed in the art and craft of wooing men ...so well spoken and well mannered and these are the few things that I realised while doing the research."
